View this post on Instagram We are at one of the rarest wells in Thar desert, going as deep as 250 feet or over '40 purush' in local tongue. To fetch water from so deep, a 'chadas' (leather bucket) is thrown down and tied to backs of these camels who are herded in straight line till the 'charas' reaches back on the surface. The water is then poured in big leather bags and sent on mules to nearby 'dhaanis (settlements). Pumping is impractical and even if done will dry up the water source fast. Thanks to the camels then.
