The dacoit who crossed over

Balwant Singh Bakhasar was a dacoit in Barmer region of Rajasthan who would cross over to Sindh after every operation. During 1971 war, he helped Indian Army by enlisting cross-border spies and mapping out the terrain. This helped the army capture towns of Chachro and Virawah in Sindh, These were later handed back to Pakistan.

His grand nephew now runs a backpackers' hostel in Jodhpur where you can share an AC room with other travellers and read stuff as varied as 'Grahshobha' and 'Grapes of Wrath'. There's also a facebook page on Mr Bakhasar where you can read about his camels, horses and of course the folk song on him.
